Solving Simple Linear Equations
A linear equation contains a variable raised only to the first power.
x + 5 = 12
Subtract 5 from both sides:
x = 7
Another Example
3x - 4 = 17
Add 4 to both sides:
3x = 21
Now divide both sides by 3:
x = 7
Practice Problems
- x + 9 = 14
- 2x = 18
- 4x - 3 = 29
